Wait just a minute

Thanks to wonderful friends, I went to the Dallas / Cincinnati game last Sunday afternoon. Great weather, good chicken nachos, and some much needed down time. Dallas lost the game 26-3. After such a bad performance, Monday’s headlines were less about the game and more about Bill Parcell’s trashing his team in the post-game press conference.

That led me to this post which started out being a full attack on Cowboy coach Bill Parcell’s whining and attitude. Come on Bill, be a leader I was about to say. But I happened to read my last post about “unity” and “mutual respect” and I got a twinge of conscience. You see, I am a hypocrite. You are too I bet. We talk one way, think another, and act yet another at times. The Apostle Paul said it best in NLT Romans 7:15, “I don’t understand myself at all, for I really want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do the very thing I hate.”

For me personally, I want to act, think, and communicate in a way that lets people know God is in control of my life. But too often, my actions and thoughts would lead people to think someone besides God is in control of my life (namely ME.)

No magic solutions to this all too common problem. Each day I get up and try again. If,no make that when, I mess up I take great comfort in knowing that God still loves me, cares for me, and wants me to start again. That goes for you too by the way.

Since I already quoted Paul once, let me end with NLT Philippians 3:13,”No, dear brothers and sisters, I am still not all I should be,(1 )but I am focusing all my energies on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead,”
