Celebrating Common Prayer

If you haven’t yet discovered The Book of Common Prayer, I would highly encourage you to go out and purchase one. It is an Anglican Church based book of worshipful prayer for each day. Here is the opening prayer for Thursdays.

O Lord, open our lips
And our mouth shall proclaim your praise.

Blessed are you, Sovereign God,
king of the nations,
to you be praise and glory for ever.
From the rising of the sun to its setting
your name is proclaimed in all the world.
As the Sun of Righteousness dawns in our hearts
anoint our lips with the seal of your Spirit
that we may witness to your gospel
and sing your praise in all the world.
Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit:
Blessed be God for ever.

To know that the words you just read in a spirit of prayer have been used for centuries by followers is a powerful thought. We stand in a long line of faithful persons who have sought to know and follow Christ just like we do. This prayer is as pertinent for today as it has ever been. May we continue to be faithful in all we say and do so as to lead others in the way of truth.
