The Hunt Morgan house, a Lexington landmark, has this sign posted outside. Interesting enough is the reasoning behind why they wanted the world to know when it was closed instead of open? But how often do we/I do the same thing in our lives? Are we known by what we are against or dislike instead of what we are for and love? In my world, it can be so easy to do exactly that. Take a quick check this week and see what you observe.

I'm one of the pastors at First United Methodist Church in Lexington, Kentucky where I've served for the past twelve years. My wife Susan and I have three children: Madelyn, Marshall and Melisa. When we aren't attending a ballet or ballgame somewhere, you can find us...oh who am I kidding... this season of life always finds us at a ballgame (Marshall and Melisa) or a ballet (somewhat less now that Madelyn is living in Anapolis, MD.). The sub-title of this blog is "Grace is no accident" which happens to be the defining reality of my life. God's grace (gift) is the reason we have breath in our lungs and hope in our hearts.
