Encourage Other’s and Change Their World

I am offering up a series of Lenten thoughts based on John Maxwell's book "Encouragement Changes Everything".

"One compliment can keep me going for a month."  Mark Twain

"You never know when a moment and a few sincere words can have an impact upon a life."  Zig Ziglar

First things first:  Encouragement is a kind act of thoughtfulness (word or deed) that fills another person with hope for the future, courage for today, and peace for yesterday. – Todd

We can make a choice in life to either build up others or not.  I wonder that if we are not building up then are we by commission or omission tearing down?

Let me say up front that we are not all wired equally with the ability to encourage others.  For some, it comes as naturally as rolling out of bed in the morning, for others it is "root canal" difficult.

But just because we are not good at something does not mean we cease trying.

I was recently in a hospital room talking to a family who had been through a tough time in the past.  One of the keys to their coming through it was the support of other people who were simply there for them.  It was not one word or one action that made them all better, but a ministry of presence given to them by a few people.

So where do we start?  How about with those closest to us?  Who in your life could use a call or a visit?  Who has been dealing with a difficult situation and might need to know that they are not alone?
